Child Support

Creating Timesharing and Support Arrangements

Experienced Family Law Attorney in Broward County, Florida

When you are going through a divorce or ending a long-term relationship there are a lot of things that need to be considered. One of the most important is your children:  what are their best interests, and how you can protect them?

For over 30 years, I have helped both married and unmarried parents sort out the details surrounding child custody and support. When you need to set up a time-sharing plan, establish child support, or modify court-ordered visitation or support, the Law Office of Neil Leavitt, P.A. is here to assist you. To find out how I can help you with your family law matter, contact me online or by calling 888-341-3975.

Calculating Child Support

Hollywood Florida Child Custody AttorneyFlorida is a guideline state; child support is based on the net income of both parties and divided by the percentage each contributes to the total income. As part of the child support process, you will be required to complete a financial affidavit and provide bank statements, paystubs and tax returns.

In addition to providing for the daily needs of the children, I can help you negotiate extra support for your child's activities, such as summer camp, sports, band and other extracurriculars.

Modification and Relocation

In some cases, there may already be an existing court order for custody (time-sharing) and support. When circumstances change significantly, you may need to file for a modification with the court. Modifications are typically available when:

  • You lose your job.
  • You change jobs or your hours are cut back with a significant change to your income.
  • You are relocating to another city or state.

If you are the custodial parent and are moving farther than 50 miles away, you must ask the court for permission. Before the court grants permission, it considers why you are moving — if it is for a job opportunity or moving closer to family — and if the relocation is in the best interests of the children. The court will look at your new location to determine if it a good community, evaluating the schools and job opportunities.

Asking for modification for any of these reasons can be a complex and lengthy process. Getting a lawyer involved can help you expedite your case and ensure that you properly complete the filing requirements. For help with establishing child support and time-sharing plans or modifying existing orders, call me at 954-985-0941 or contact me online for a no-cost consultation in the Hollywood, Florida, area. I am always on your side.
